Jason Taylor Talks About His Injured Knee

August 29, 2008 - Newly acquired, defensive end, Jason Taylor suffered a sprained right knee in last Saturday’s 47-3 loss to the Carolina Panthers.   We caught up with him for a very brief interview as he was signing autographs for the fans.

DCUrbanSports: Jason, how’s the knee feeling these days?

JC:  It’ll stop hurtin’ when it gets better.   That’s what I tell everybody.  It’ll be alright.”

DCUrbanSports:  Is there a timeframe for a full recovery period?

JC:  “I have no idea.  I’m just trying to get back as soon as I can.”

Jason also tells us he will not play in tonight’s game at FedEx field, and does not know if he will be cleared for the Redskins’ season opener with the New York Giants on September 4th.

More From the Luncheon

Gene Upshaw News

While nothing official was mentioned at the Redskins Welcome Home Luncheon by the coaching staff, or owner Dan Snyder (who actually never addressed the crowd at the luncheon), DC Urban Sports learned that prior to the passing of Gene Upshaw, former Redskin Brig Owens was considering Upshaw as a nominee for his annual Super Leader Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award ceremony is still in the works. More info can be found at SuperLeaders.com.

As we told you earlier this week, memorial services for Mr. Upshaw have been planned for September 2, at 10:30 am at the Kennedy Center Hall.

The Redskins Encyclopedia

Mike Richman, journalist and Redskins historian, is the author of the new book, The Redskins Encyclopedia gives an account of Redskins’ history, through the years.  His book features coverage and information dating as far back as 1927 with original ‘Skins owner George Marshall.

For highlights, photos, and commentary, through the Redskins’ 75 years visit www.redskinshistorian.com.

Seen at the luncheon

Veteran CNN news reporter, Bernard Shaw.

Worth Mentioning

LaDale Betts’ birthday was on the same day of the Welcome Home Luncheon.  Happy birthday LaDale!

Parting Gifts -

·         A copy of the Official 2008 Redskins Yearbook which recognized all twenty-two of the Redskins Hall of Famers, including recent inductees Art Monk and Darryl Green. The yearbook also introduces new head coach Jim Zorn, and gives a tribute to Sean Taylor.

·         A copy of The 2008 Fall edition of Capital File Magazine featuring actress Jada Pinkett Smith on the cover.   Jada talks about her new, upcoming film, The Women.

Special Thanks!

Many, many, many thanks to Wizards/Skins photographer Ned Dishman who provided me with a CF card after I inadvertently left all of mine at home.  Thanks for saving the day!
