If you’ve never attended, mark your calendar for this week and this weekend.
If you didn't make it this year mark your 2007 calendar, now.
Homecoming week kicked off with several shows and events around the city and on campus, one
week before the homecoming football game with Morgan State.
Sunday night brought the Howard University Gospel Show at Crampton Auditorium featuring
Deitrick Haddon, and headliner Mrs. Kim Burrell.
Tuesday night was comedy
night with host Steve Harvey, of the Steve Harvey Morning Show. (More Steve Harvey news.)
Steve's unique blend of comedy and humor, as always, left
the audience in shear laughter.
Speaking out to one audience member who challenged the 'rules' of the show - Steve reminded the audience
member they were at the show to hear the comedians on the stage and not the wanna-be comedians
in the audience.
Other comedians of the show included BET's Comic View favorites Ronnie Jordan, Cocoa Brown, who had a 'message' for Freshman women; and the hilariously funny, Lavelle Crawford.
When DC
Urban LifeStyle Magazine asked LaVelle where he gets his inspiration, he credits comics like Sinbad and Richard
Pryor.
He says he “At first, I didn’t know you could be funny and make money at it, too.”

LaVelle, comic turned actor, has been
in both stage plays, Men Cry In The Dark, and Friends and Lovers, along with the made-for-TV movie,
Love Chronicles.
LaVelle told DC Urban LifeStyle Magazine that his future projects include a DVD titled, Take
A Fat Break, and TNT’s Comedy Fest, to be taped in Las Vegas.
One thing is true: Lavelle Crawford, comedic genius, is well on his way to finding out that he can, indeed, be funny and make money at it,
too.
Homecoming events continued all weekend long leading up to the homecoming
football game with Morgan State University.
Yard Fest, where recording artists performed live (for free), included
Monica and Trey Songz (to name a few).
The R&B concert featured Rap/Rock band, The Roots.
