Tuition Increase Not Welcomed By UDC Students

Sign of UDC student, Glenn Wells, in protest of the proposed tuition increase at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). Students call for the resignation of university's president, Allen Sessoms.

February 11, 209 - Glenn Wells, a part-time journalism major at UDC, tells us that the tuition increases aren’t warranted.

“If they were upgrading the school, I could see a reason for the increase.”

As it stands now, Wells says, “the school’s computer lab could use an upgrade as well as a few of the school’s leaking ceilings.”

Wells also expressed his disagreement over the school’s activity fees.   “If we don’t patronize the school’s activities, why are we being charged for the increase?

Over a year’s time tuition has gone up over $2,000, according at Wells.

At present, Wells is paying out of pocket for his college expenses.

Wells, a former Fords’ Theatre employee, was front and center with his Honk To Save UDC: Get Sessoms Out! sign on the night that President and First Lady Michelle Obama attended the grand re-opening of Ford's’ Theatre.

“I was hoping we’d get a glimpse of him so he could the sign”, said Wells.
