The WNBA will hold its draft lottery on Tuesday, October 23rd. Teams who did not qualify for the playoffs
are eligible for the lottery.
The Washington Mystics barely missed the playoffs and will have the fifth best chance of landing the top spot. The
WNBA’s new franchise based in Atlanta will be assigned the fourth spot.
The lottery will establish the order of selection for the first six picks of the draft. The order of selection for
the remainder of the first round as well as the second and third rounds is based on each team’s finish during the 2007
regular season.
“The upside of not making the playoffs is that you get to go in the lottery, in what promises to be a strong
draft,” said General Manager, Linda Hargrove. “Even though we have a low chance of finishing first, there is still
that opportunity and it creates a lot of excitement.”
The first-round order of selection for the teams that do not receive one of the top six picks, as well as the order
of selection for the second and third round is determined by inverse order of their respective regular-season records.
