Arenas Scores Three at the Buzzer For the Win

January 3, 2007 - To quote a popular lyricist. . .

“But I, some how, some way, keep comin’ up with funky (edited for this article) hits like every single day.”

So, just how does Gilbert Arenas keep coming up with those funky, clutch shots like every single game?

Shots that give him and the Wiz Kids win, after win, after win - whether it be with the old NBA ball, or the new NBA ball, or the just re-introduced old NBA ball.

That’s what fans wonder about Gilbert when they see him perform like he did last night at the Verizon Center.

A clutch three pointer at the buzzer, with less than six seconds remaining to stave off the Milwaukee Bucks 108-105, keeps the game from going into overtime.

Even Wizards Coach Eddie Jordan is amazed at his star player.   Says Coach Jordan, “He (Gilbert) is a terrific scorer, and he has great timing and a good feel.”

The funny thing about Gilbert is even though he’s usually low-key and plays down all the hoopla he’s gotten from the media on his terrific scoring at this juncture of his career, he did say to the media last evening, “I don’t know why this is surprising to you guys now.”  As if he was putting to rest any reservations doubters have about the Wizards.

Milwaukee played a zone tonight and we beat it, said Gilbert.

Milwaukee Bucks held their own, coming back to haunt the Wizards time after time.  But in the end it was the Wizards who prevailed.

Gilbert had 32 points on the night; followed by Caron Butler with 9.

The Wizards won 12 games in December, the team’s first since 1977.

Arenas won Player of the Month in December -  not once, but twice; while Coach, Eddie Jordan was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month.

Gilbert Arenas, at this point, is just as much a contender for the 2007 NBA All-Stars as any other player in the league.    Telling reporters there are so many other players who are a better caliber than he, they probably wouldn’t miss him this year.

What?

Aw, that’s our guy, Gilbert.  Humble to the end.

But the fans in D.C. and around the league know an All-Star when we see one.

Arenas tidbit.  Gilbert celebrates his 25th birthday with a party on January 5th, reserved only for the select few, at Love night club.  For more info, see www.arenasexpress.com
