The Dawson Family

November 29, 2007 - On the very same day that the world was stunned by the news that Redskins safety, Sean Taylor, had died from a gunshot wound to the leg by an intruder inside his Miami, FL home, another life had begun in Alexandria, Virginia.

Five pound, fourteen ounce, Sean Taylor Dawson entered this world on November 27, 2007 at Alexandria Inova Hospital.

Months before his anticipated due date, his parents, Deanna and Kevin Dawson had no question what they would name their son, and gives no thought to inquiries from coworkers and others asking why they chose to name their son after a football player the media has pinned as a troubled person. 

“We knew we were going to name our son Sean Taylor after our favorite Redskins player. Sean Taylor was a good person, and a great football player," said proud dad, Kevin Dawson (whose birthday is November 26th). 

"He's the best Redskins player next to Clinton Portis", Dawson further stated.

Thanks to a co-worker who posted on the Fox5 News blog where fans could leave comments about and tributes to their favorite Redskins player, the news about their newborn quickly surfaced.

When asked how they feel about the publicity their new son has received, Mrs. Dawson explains, “I was a bit pessimistic at first about the notoriety because you never know if people would try to take advantage.” 

While the couple says they don’t necessarily know if their son will play football, they are more concerned that he go to college and graduates.  Kevin Dawson, a self-professed ‘nerd’ said, “I’d like to see our son go to Michigan because of their engineering, science, and math programs; or either become a lawyer, or a doctor, or team owner.”

“It’s important to not only go to college, said Dawson, but why not own a team, or become an entrepreneur?”  

Both parents speak favorably of entrepreneurship.  Kevin Dawson, who has hopes of becoming an entrepreneur someday, works as a manager at a downtown law firm while first-time mom, Deanna works in an Alexandria, VA real estate office.

The couple of five years, married for almost two, met online at the popular community chat and web site, BlackPlanet.com when Deanna was a student at Howard University.  She is a graduate of the university's School of Business and Finance.  

The couple admits its been rough financially (Kevin has two boys 5, and 7) but have been successful at making sure their children stay on the right track, and admits both sons are smart in school.

Little Sean Taylor Dawson, with eyes wide open peering at his new surroundings, is a welcomed and exciting addition to the Dawson family.  Both mom and baby are fine.
