The two-day event (Saturday and Sunday) gives BBQ enthusiatss around the region a chance to showcase their
barbeque skills and products, and fans of BBQ a chance to sample it all. Those who either attended or performed during
event included blues singer Patty Reese, (who did a not-so-bad Blues version of Aretha Franklin's 'Chain
of Fools'); Wizards' Gil Arenas and JaVale McGee, father of Go-Go, Chuck Brown;
Denzel Washington (really), jazz musicians Earl Carter and Marcus Johnson, and all the pork one could stand, including
some from the event's returning champs, Famous Dave's.
"We win just about every year", said a staffer at the Famous Dave's BBQ station.
The yearly event helps benefit
the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington's Metropolitan Police Club Houses and featured various recreational
and learning stations for kids and family, as well as stations teaching healthy cooking.
