October 5, 2008 - TV and radio host, Big Tigger
and The Street Corner Foundation (SCF) presented Big Tigger’s 2nd Annual HIV/AIDS RIDE FOR LIFE featuring
World-Renowned AMA Drag Racing Champion, Rickey Gadson as Honorary Grand Marshall. (Click here to see Gadson in action).
Tigger and Gadson led the assembly of approximately
2,000 riders and bike enthusiasts for the largest African-American motorcycle ride benefiting HIV/AIDS in the Washington,
DC area.
Gadson, eight-time World Champion, who's been drag racing for twenty-five years (and riding
motorcycles since he was five-years old) said, "This is a positive event and I'm honored to lend my support to it."
"AIDS is something that a lot of people think can't happen to them, but it is happening,
and it's happening a lot with women, and the younger generation. So if it takes motorcycles to come together, and
somebody to put it all together like Tigger, then it's all worth it", added Gadson.
Starting at RFK Stadium, RIDE FOR LIFE saw cyclists en route through DC, following a fifteen mile route through Maryland and ending at Rosecroft
Raceway in Fort Washington, MD.
Motorcycle groups around the DC, MD, VA area
included the likes of Stars Diva MC, Platinum Dreams Sports Riders, Southern Maryland's Family On Wheels, and the Omega Ryderz (Omega Psi Phi fraternity)
who not only came out to support the effort, but also to foster comaraderie between fellow riders, both male and female
alike.
The grand finale included an HIV/AIDS
testing initiative, cookout, live entertainment, bike show competition, and awards show.
"Without the support of the riders and
the community, this event would not be possible", said Tigger.
