In Friday’s contest against New
York, Mystics DeLisha Milton-Jones pumped in 20 points and 10 rebounds while teammate, Alana Beard contributed 18 in a 80-65 win.
Mystics guard, Monique Curry dished in 12 points, just two ahead of DeLisha-Milton Jones’ double-double of 10 points and 10 ‘bounds.
New York’s Janel McCarville was the team’s high scorer with 12 points.
The Mystics lost twice this season to New York.
Friday’s win over New York made the age-old adage ‘the third time’s
the charm’ quite fitting, and made New York the lowest-ranking team in the WNBA so far.
In Sunday’s game against the Chicago Sky, the Mystics defeated their rivals
71-66.
Alana Beard had 18 points while Coco Miller added 16 to help make the win the second of the weekend.
Former Mystics, Chasity Melvin (traded to Chicago earlier in the season) had 14 points and 12 rebounds. (Read DC Urban Sports Interview with Chasity Melvin.)
Chicago, winning just four of its last 13 games, is hopeful to win a spot in
the playoffs.
The
Mystics, 12-16, moved into fourth place in the Eastern Conference ahead of their two rivals Chicago and New York.
The
Mystics begin their road tour with four games beginning at San Antonio on August 7, continuing through the week with L.A.,
Seattle, and Sacramento before returning home to play Connecticut on August 14th.
