October 13, 2007 - The Washington Mystics Foundation in association with the Obesity Prevention Center at Saint Louis University School of Public Health, will kick off the second year of its “Mystics in Training” (MIT) program at John Carroll Elementary School in Landover, Maryland on Wednesday, October 17th at 1:30 p.m.

Washington Mystics All-Star Alana Beard will assist with the kick off and participate in the festivities.

The Mystics in Training program is designed to get children in fourth and fifth grades moving. It is a year-long program that will follow the children’s fitness progress. The program includes the Mystics Mile, where the children walk at least a mile with their teachers as well as follow lesson plans focused on nutritional choices.

“It is important that we keep our children healthy,” said Beard. “MIT gives them the tools to start making healthy choices at an early age.”

The John Carroll Elementary School is located at 1400 Nalley Terrace in Landover, MD.
