November
11, 2009 - On today’s episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah interviewed Charla Nash, the woman who
was mauled by her friend’s chimpanzee.
In
the exclusive interview at the Cleveland Clinic, Charla spoke to Oprah about the ordeal she says she doesn’t quite remember
and doesn’t inquire much about from her doctors.
Charla
lost much of her face including both her eyes, nose, and part of her jaw. She
also lost her hands and fingers, although doctors managed to reapply her thumb to what was left of her right hand.
She
wears a hat with a veil to cover her face as “not to scare anyone” even though she told Oprah that
she can't be concerned with what other people think about her looks.
"I'm the one who has to like this," she says. "Not them.
So it doesn't matter what they say."
Charla Nash before and after the
incident.

Charla’s
17 year old daughter Brianna, who visits her frequently in the hospital, is living with friends while she finishes her senior
year in high school.
Nash
told Oprah she wished she could “help her daughter pick out her prom dress”.
Nash
has filed a $50 million lawsuit against her friend, and employer, Sandra Herold, who owned the chimp
named Travis. The chimp, after its nearly twelve minute rampage on Nash, was shot and killed.
Nash
wanted to reveal herself on the Oprah show to deter tabloid pictures where there was a heavy bounty for them.
