July 17, 2008 - Thousands lined up around the National Building Museum, and the DC Convention Center for job
fairs in the District yesterday.
"It's because of Obama's call for volunteering and service that has inspired people",
said Tim McManus Vice President Education and Outreach for Partnership For Public Service.
It's also because of the economic recession.
McManus speculates that more than six thousand people (up
four thousand from last year) attended the internship and job fair, from all over the country due to their partnership with
over 700 colleges and universities.
Job seekers line up outside the National Building Museum,
and inside the DC Convention Center seeking employment opportunities.
He also credits social networking sites like
Facebook for creating awareness of the event.
On the other side of town, the 12th annual DC Delegate, Eleanor Holmes
Norton Job Fair convened, for DC residents only.
