June 17, 2006 - The stars were out as Big Tigger of BET's 106 &
WPGC radio personality, and founder of The Street Corner Foundation, hosted his 5th
annual Celebrity Classic to help bring awareness and prevention of HIV and AIDS in the African American community.
With each year getting bigger and better, celebrities from the sports, entertainment,
and film industries took part in a three-day weekend awareness campaign that included HIV testing, panel discussions on HIV
and AIDS prevention, a celebrity basketball game, and more.
Many celebrities such as actress Gabrielle Union (Bring It
On, and Two Can Play That Game), and Essence Atkins (UPN's Half and Half) took time
out to lend support to Tigger, and the cause; as did Carl Anthony Payne (Cole, of Martin) who coached the visiting
team.
A few of the celebrity athletes who played in this year's basketball
game were the Dallas Cowboy's latest addition, Terrell Owens; linebacker, Shawne Merriman of the San Diego Chargers; and defensive
back, Darren Sharper of the Minnesota Vikings.
R&B singers, Lyfe Jennings, and Avant also supported the cause by both scoring big points to help their team win
over the home team by a score of 116-96.
This year's event raised over $200,000.
If you missed this year's Celebrity Classic, mark your calendar to attend
the 2007 event. For info on how you can help this cause visit www.bigtigweekend.net.
Tigger is doing big things in the Washington, D.C. urban community
- and to that end, he deserves a hearty thank you.
Hey, Big Tig... THANK YOU! (Keep up the good
work.)
