September 28, 2009 - President Obama will join First Lady, Michelle in Copenhagen in October as the two prepare to make
a bid to bring the 2016 US Summer Olympics to Chicago.
The two will make presentations to the International Olympic Committee during Friday’s session where they plan
to discuss why Chicago is best to host the 2016 Summer Games, and how the United States is eager to bring the world together
to celebrate the ideals of the Olympic movement.
Initially, the First Lady was to travel without the president to lead the United States delegation and address members
of the International Olympic Committee.
The president is slated to depart Washington on Thursday, October 1, returning later on Friday, October 2nd.
While in Denmark, the President
and First Lady will meet with Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness, the Prince Consort. President Obama will
also meet with Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
Earlier this month, the president and First Lady hosted an Olympics, Paralympic youth sport event at the White House joined by several area students and former Olympians Jackie Joyner Kersee, Dominique Dawes, and Jair
Lynch.
