A Dashing Spectacle of Tennis Rivalry

August 8, 2006 - Washington, D.C.

 

Sweltering heat couldn't stop Andy Murray and Arnaud Clement from dueling it out on the tennis court at the
Tennis Classic held at Rock Creek Park.

For more than an hour the British tennis star and the French tennis star dealt superb serves to each other in what would end up being the Frenchman's first U.S. tennis title win, beating the crowd favorite, Andy Murray in straight sets, 7-6 (7-3); 6-2.

It's one of my best weeks ever," Clement said. "I think I played my best match in the final."

Andy Murray played exceptionally well, despite developing two blisters on his right hand earlier in the second set. 

Prior to meeting Clement in the final game of the ATP schedule, Murray won 13 of his last16 matches.  When asked about his loss to Clement, he stated that he "had several chances to win in this match The match was entertaining on all fronts and was certainly a crowd pleaser.
 
The Women's
match featured France's, Camille Pin and Israel's, Tzipora Obziler, with Obziler winning 7-2, 2-5.
