July 14-16, 2006 - Talks of trade, philanthropy, and softball
were the order of the day (or shall we say weekend) for Philadelphia Seventy Sixers star, Allen Iverson .
The weekend boasted another year of Mr. Iverson's Celebrity
Softball Classic, an event held in the D.C. area by Iverson's Crossover Foundation.
One of this year's recipients of the foundation's scholarship
fund, Terry Scott, was on hand at the ESPN Zone to accept a fifty-thousand dollar check, along
with St. Augustine's College, where Terry plans to major in Sports Management.
The celebrity softball game, which hosted many celebrities, athletes,
and super stars took place at the BaySox Stadium in Bowie Maryland.
On hand to help propel the Iverson All Stars to a 7-3 win were
rapper, Nelly (who hit a home run for the visiting team) and Indiana Pacer's guard and forward, Stephen Jackson.
When asked about being traded by the Sixers, Iverson
candidly replied that he wished a decision would be made soon so that the unknown would not be such a burden on his wife and
children.
Iverson also stated, when DC Urban Sports asked
if he would play in the Nation's Capital, that he "would play for any team that could appreciate his hard work on the
court, night-after-night."
