Coach Gibbs Retires As Redskins Head Coach

January 8, 2007 (Dulles, Virginia) - Joe Gibbs retires as Redskins head coach and team president.

Gibbs, who retired with one year remaining on his contract, will remain part of the Redskins family and serve as a special advisor to owner, Daniel Snyder.

Gibbs cites 'family concerns' as his reason for retirement.
 
The announcement came early Tuesday morning.
 
Fans and teammates react in surprise.
 
A successor to the NFL hall-of-famer is not determined at this time, however speculations abound.
