Former Mystic Talks About Her Trade and the WNBA All Star Weekend

July 15, 2007 - (George Washington University). DC Urban Sports caught up with former Washington Mystics player, Chasity Melvin as she attended the WNBA Hip Hop Forum presented by the Washington Mystics Foundation during All-star weekend.

Chasity was traded to Chicago this season and was kind enough to talk about her trade, along with the WNBA All Star weekend.

dcurbansports I'm here with former Mystics, Chasity Melvin.  How are you?

CM:  "Good.  Thanks."

dcurbansports: Talk about your trade and how that’s working out for you.

CM:  "At first it was a little rushed, you know.  It was a hard transition at first, but now everything’s smoothing over and I’m feeling real good about the second half of the season."

dcurbansports:  Was this something you had anticipated, or not?

CM:  "I had anticipated it in the off-season.  We (my agent) and I had talked about it and the management of the Mystics, but it didn’t go through -  so when I came into the season I just felt like I was going to be with the Mystics again.  So, it did catch me by surprise, but you know, that’s the way the business works. I’m excited to be in Chicago and I still have the same role there in Chicago."

dcurbansports:  What’s your average been in Chicago.  How’s that working?

CM:  "Well, actually we’ve had four loses, so we’re on a loosing streak right now.  We have a young team so we’re learning. But I’ve been averaging about ten points, 6 rebounds a game.  I feel really good. I’m just excited about the second half of the season.  Because I had to learn a whole new system and I’m just feeling comfortable with the plays and with the players.  I’ve been in D.C. for the past three years and it’s a totally different system, so I feel real good going back after the All-stars."

dcurbansports:  What are you thoughts on the All Star game?  It’s been a phenomenal weekend with a lot of events.  Have you been attending most of them?

CM:  "I just went down to the outside courts (referring to the BE tour) and hung out and mingled with some of the fans.  I saw a lot of my Mystics fans, and I was excited about that. I took my niece out there.  But actually I’m just really tired.  I’ve had a hard first season, just with the trade and everything, so I wanted to kind of get a break - but I also wanted to come down and try to let the fans see me some and just mingle… you know, it’s all about making the WNBA better."

dcurbansports:  Will you be at the game?

CM:  "Uh, yeah. I’m try to get to the game after this (hip hop forum), you know and get out there and show my face.  You know, just show my support for the league, and the All-stars and all the women who play in the league."

dcurbansports:  Well, it’s good to see you again and thanks for the interview.  Good luck to you.

CM:   "Thank you."
