The Big Tigger 7th Annual Celebrity Classic Train Continues To Roll on with Youth
Sports Clinic!
June 6, 2008 - Today's Youth Sports Clinic featured several athletes who spent time engaging
children, affected or infected by HIV/AIDS, in the fundamentals of basketball and football.
Athletes from around the
NFL and NBA to include the likes of Denver Nuggets, Kenyon Martin; Washington Redskins' Fred Smoot
(who rolled up in his off-white Rolls Royce); San Franciso 49er's, Vernon Davis, and others.
Fred Smoot, Kenyon Martin, Vernon Davis, Tigger, particpate in youth sports clinic.
Davis, a D.C. native says the event is important to him because it
gives him a chance to give back to the community.
"The kids expect to see our face, and see us come back to the neighborhood.
So, it's vital", said Davis.
When asked what advice or inspiration he has for the kids Davis encourages kids to dream
big, work hard in school, get their homework done.
"They can be anything they want to be. It's going to take some
time, but they'll get there."
On AIDS/HIVThe Clinic, which took place at the Trinidad Recreation
Center, was also the point of free HIV/AIDS testing.
The weekend-long event is the brain child of WPGC radio
personality,
Big Tigger, and kicked off Thursday with a
Town Hall Meeting that included Mayor
Fenty.
Proceeds from the event go to support Tigger's 'Street Corner Foundation'.
Said one parent, "There needs to be more events like this one to bring awareness and prevention of AIDS."
