Gets D.C. Area Kids Ready For School

August 17, 2007 – The 93.9 WKYS/ Russ Parr Back To School Bus Tour came full circle in the Nation’s Capital this past week after touring ten cities nation wide.

The tour is the station’s way of giving back to the community and getting the kids ready to go back to school,” said Russ Parr of the Russ Parr Morning Show.

School supplies were given to students along the tour, with remaining donations given to area schools.

Jessica Davis was this year’s winner of a brand new computer, and a $1500 Macy’s gift card.

Students who may not have done much in the way of fun this summer can see free, live performances by both well known and up and coming artists.

This year's performances at Union Station featured artists B5, Plies, Kinfolk, and D.C.’s own, Wale.

Atlantic Records recording artist, Plies showed his love for the kids by giving one family, randomly chosen from the audience, a back to school gift in the name of $500 cash.

Councilman At Large, Kwame Brown, and Michelle A. Rhee,
D.C. Public School’s New Chancellor, stopped by to show their support for the upcoming school year.

Recognized as “The People’s Station”,  WKYS, Radio One’s flagship radio station, is owned and operated in twenty-three U.S.cities.
