Fight Canceled Due to Lack of EMT Availability

March 8, 2007 -The boxing event pegged Law and DisOrder’ held at the  All Star Legacy Training Facility in Dulles, VA was over before it even got started.

Promoted by Asim Hanif, Director of the East-West Gym & Fitness Inc.  in Ashburn, VA, the event was canceled due to inability to obtain an emergency medical team (EMT).

DC UrbanSports asked boxers if they’d ever experienced a fight being canceled because of no available EMT.  All who were asked said, “No.”

Sympathetic towards Asim, ‘Dangerous’ Dana Dunston talked about the cancellation.

“I feel bad for the promoter. He went out and tried his best to get the fight going for the crowd, and I feel bad for the fans having to come all the way out here, but what can you do?  That’s the name of the game sometimes.”

On what’s next for Dana Dunston:  “Back in the gym, back to sparring. Getting my body in shape for the next fight.”

Darnell Wilson, 22-6-3, 19 KOs, who said he was well prepared for his match had this to say:

“I’m obviously a little upset about it.  I had people come down to watch me and I wanted to show my stuff. I wanted to show my speed.”

“You know, it happens – I think a little honest mistake was made, and it’s a bit disheartening, I tell you.  I feel it right now.”

On what’s next for Darnell Wilson:  “Expect a really big announcement.  I can’t really talk about it, but there will be a really big announcement in the next couple of weeks.”

Wilson hinted about the possibility of a national bout being televised.  It is not yet known which network will televise the event.

Jonathan Felton , residing in Stafford, VA says the cancellation was a minor setback.

“We need something in the Virginia area.    I’m a fighter myself, I came to support Darnell.  I work out with him, Derrick Amos, and I came out to support the local fighters, as well as the fighters from DC.  Tonight was a minor setback, but knowing Asim, he’ll bounce back.  He always has nice cards.”

When asked if he’d ever seen a fight canceled for lack of medical staff, he said, “Never.”  “I’m glad I wasn’t on the card.  It shows me anything can happen.”

On what’s next for Jonathan Felton:

Has plans to fight on the mid- August Michaels Eighth Avenue card.

“I’m a free agent right now.  So if anyone has any shows coming up, I’m available.”

Worth mentioning.

An upcoming bout features cruiserweight, Adam Harris (10-0), originally from Massachusetts.  He has a bout April 4th in Penn, PA, and an April 12 fight in Richmond, VA.

Says Harris, "I’m getting a title fight coming up on June 6th in Miami on ESPN against former heavy weight (now cruiser weight), Castille."

Asim was not immediately available to comment on last evening's cancellation. We look forward to speaking with him soon to hear his comments, and wish him success with future cards. As the sinage on the wall of All Star Legacy Training facility says, "Never Underestimate The Power of A Dream".

We thank Asim for allowing DC UrbanSports to cover the event.
