Washington, D.C. – The Washington Mystics will
celebrate Black History Month by kicking off an essay contest for the month of February on the team website. This season the Mystics have teamed
up with Chevy Chase to honor those individuals who have had a positive impact on their community
with the Hometown Hero Award.
The question posed on the website is to write about an African-American woman or man that you would nominate
for our Chevy Chase Hometown Hero Award and why?
The Chevy Chase Hometown Hero Award honors individuals such as firefighters, police officers, rescue workers, teachers
or community leaders who have an overwhelming impact on the lives of others within our local community.
Essays should be between 250-500 words and the deadline is February 25th.
Fans should check back to the Washington Mystics website on February 29th to see if
their essay is posted as the winning essay. All essays should be sent to essaycontest@washmystics.com.
The winner will be chosen by the
Washington Mystics staff. The person nominated will be honored as a Chevy Chase Hometown Hero with a plaque at one of the
Mystics home games and the writer will receive a team autographed ball and tickets to the Mystics opening night game on May
25th against the Houston Comets.
